Brief description:
Archachatina spec. “Calabar” is relatively new to the hobby. They originate from Nigeria, more precisely from the city of Calabar.
The snail shell varies in coloration. Sometimes it is heavily marbled, with a rich red tip. Sometimes the colors are also faded and you can only see the beginnings of it. The snail body is light gray to black.
It is a great snail species that will eat any food offered without any problems. Archachatina spec. “Calabar” requires a forest terrarium with a substrate height of at least 15 cm. They sometimes bury themselves in it and the height is very important for laying eggs.
Daytime temperatures of 25-28°C and a humidity of 80-90% have proven to be ideal for keeping this species. The animals are very active and explore their surroundings during the day. Like almost all snail species, they should be kept in a group of at least 3 animals.
