Jumping spiders

Where do jumping spiders get their name from?

Jumping spiders got their name thanks to their ability to make great leaps. They do not build webs, but hunt their prey. This is where their jumping ability comes into play. Watching them hunt is always a spectacle and you are always amazed at how fast a spider can react. They prefer to eat flies and oven fish. These have a soft chitinous shell and, unlike crickets or other crickets, are not dangerous for the spiders.

Why do jumping spiders always look so cute?

There are more than 4,000 known species worldwide, although the Central European jumping spiders are only 5 to 8 mm in size. Due to their small size, they are therefore rather uninteresting compared to the Central American species. Jumping spiders can see particularly well. They can adjust their visual acuity to different distances and change the direction of their gaze. At distances of up to 10 cm, the spider can visually distinguish shapes. The overlapping fields of vision of the front side eyes enable spatial vision. They therefore always observe their surroundings very closely, which looks pretty cute.

How are jumping spiders kept?

Jumping spiders are easy to keep and care for. They do not require a lot of space and are also very frugal in terms of climatic conditions and are therefore also recommended for beginners. We offer various species in the jumping spider category. The specific differences are described under the respective spider. Our spiders are captive-bred and not wild-caught. They are food-safe and we only offer all species from a size of FH3. At this stage they are a good size to observe and they are absolutely stable.
