Mangosteen leaves (Garcinia mangostana) are used in traditional medicine in Southeast Asia as an anti-inflammatory and antiseptic food.
The name mangostin is based on the Malay “manggusta” or “manggistan”. The mangostin tree has nothing to do with the mango. In folk medicine, the mangostin tree is highly regarded in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Sri Lanka. According to traditional Thai medicine, the bark of the tree, the leaves and the skin of the fruit are used. The traditional uses are for inflammations such as acne, fungal diseases, wounds, diarrhoea and dysentery.
In terraristics and aquaristics, Mangosteen leaves are used as a ground cover. This makes the substrate natural and at the same time the tannic acid protects against mould and bacteria.
We would like to point out that this is a natural product and that no two pieces are alike.
