Flake Soil is a highly appreciated breeding substrate that is not only used by beetle keepers. All invertebrates such as cockroaches, millipedes, isopods and springtails that decompose dead or white rotten wood can be kept in Flake Soil. It is not only a simple substitute for forest humus and dead wood, but the high content of cellulose makes it a premium rearing substrate.
We manufacture our Flake Soil ourselves and know what is inside of it:
100% beech shavings
Wheat bran ensures a quick start of the bacterial culture
Bacteria from the organic compost
Spring water from the Lauter
Our Flake Soil ferments for 3 months in a vaulted cellar and then stores for another month until the fermentation process is complete. We then sterilise the flake soil for 48 hours at -30° in the freezer.
We do not recommend mixing the flake soil with other types of substrate, as this can lead to renewed fermentation. The Flake Soil should also only be used in breeding boxes with ventilation. Buy Flake Soil
