Short description Xenesthis intermedia:
Xenesthis intermedia is probably one of the most strikingly coloured tarantulas in the hobby. This species digs out burrows and uses them as shelter, so a forest humus-sand mixture with a ratio of 3:1 and a filling height of 15 to 20 cm should be chosen as substrate. This also helps to maintain a humidity of 75 to 85 % without causing waterlogging. As a burrow dweller, it is nevertheless relatively often to be seen and thus also present in the terrarium. The spiders offered can be raised in a BraPlast tin or in a rearing terrarium and later placed in a terrarium.
The terrarium size of 40 × 30 × 30 cm is well chosen. Furnishings can be chosen according to taste with wood and or stones. A water bowl must not be missing for Xenesthis intermedia. Food animals are greedily accepted and everything that can be overpowered is eaten. The species, which grows quite large, grows quickly and is adult at about 3 years. As with many new-world tarantula species, Xenesthis intermedia has stinging hairs which are shed for defence. The stinging hairs cause a slight itching of the skin and are of no further concern.
Xenesthis intermedia is a strikingly beautiful tarantula that is also suitable for beginners in spider keeping. They will eat all kinds of food without any problems and are also forgiving of short-term husbandry mistakes.
