Short description:
Armadillidium granulatum “Lemon” is the first color morph of this species. There will be more, that much is already sure. Since Armadillidium granulatum already inspires numerous keepers by their size and the easy keeping, it is great news for all.
The morph has a brown ground coloration with larger yellow spots than the original. The size and also the easy keeping has not changed by the mutation. In the breeding strain of Armadillidium granulatum “Lemon” another mutation named “Magic Potion” occurs occasionally. This is currently being selected and bred out by us. Therefore the species Armadillidium granulatum remains exciting and one can be curious what will come.
The keeping of a group of Armadillidium granulatum “Lemon” is possible in containers from a capacity of 5l. It is important to know that this isopod species will not reproduce if there is not enough space. Since the natural habitat is the litter layer in deciduous forests, special attention should be paid to this. If you want to design the terrarium close to nature, you should choose as substrate a layer of deciduous forest humus, leaves and white rotten wood with a height of about 10 cm. On this layer of substrate you should spread mosses, pieces of bark and leaves. On the one hand these things serve as shelter, on the other hand as food and to keep the humidity in the tank. The tank for Armadillidium granulatum “Lemon” should always be kept moist. Waterlogging should be avoided as much as possible. A humidity of 60-80% will normally settle by itself with regular spraying. The animals need lime to build up their shell, which can be given in the form of cuttlefish, crushed eggshells or similar. As food serves the white rotten/dead wood, as well as the foliage in the substrate. In addition, vegetables, fruit, flowers and isopod food is readily accepted.
