Birupes simoroxigorum – Fascinating rainforest tarantula

Birupes simoroxigorum is one of the most spectacular tarantulas to have entered the terrarium hobby in recent years. The species was first Scientifically described in 2019 and even forms its own genus – Birupes. To date, it is the only known species of this genus.

Their natural habitat is in the tropical tropical rainforests of Sarawak on Borneo (Malaysia). There it lives in warm, damp forests and uses loose soil, rotten wood or tree hollows as retreats.

This species became particularly famous for its intensely shining, metallic blue legs. These contrast strongly with the dark body and make the spider one of the most striking tarantulas in terms of color.

Adult animals reach a leg span of about 12-13 cm. Females usually appear more robustly built, while males remain slimmer and have longer legs.

The behavior of this species is typical of many old-world tarantulas. She owns No stinging hairs and instead relies on speed and defensive behavior. When disturbed, it usually retreats to its hiding place in a flash or displays a threatening posture.
