Lasiodora klugi is one of the largest and most impressive tarantulas in the terrarium hobby. The species originates from the tropical regions of South America and is mainly found in Brazil. There it lives mainly on the ground in loose soil, where it likes to hide under roots, stones or in self-created burrows.

The animals reach a considerable body size and wingspanwhich makes them look particularly imposing. Their body is strongly built and densely furred. The dark basic coloration is complemented by slightly reddish to brownish hairs, which stand out particularly well in the right light. Due to its size and appearance, Lasiodora klugi is one of the tarantula species that immediately attracts attention in the terrarium.

Suitable for keeping is a spacious terrarium with sufficient substrate. As this is a ground-dwelling species, a high substrate layer is particularly important. This allows the spider to burrow or create a sheltered retreat. In addition, pieces of bark, roots or other structures provide hiding places and a natural design.

Humidity should be kept moderate. A slightly damp corner in the terrarium is usually sufficient to allow the animals to withdraw during moulting. At the same time, the terrarium should be well ventilated so that no stagnant, moist air forms.

Lasiodora klugi is considered a robust and quite adaptable tarantula. Nevertheless, their size and temperament should not be underestimated. The animals can be quite defensive when disturbed and have strong stinging hairs that they use for defense.

The species is very uncomplicated when it comes to feeding. Crickets, cockroaches or other suitable food insects are reliably accepted. Due to its size, Lasiodora klugi has a good appetite and grows quickly when fed regularly.
