Alocasia “Silver Dragon” – Exotic terrarium plant with a silvery shimmer

The Alocasia Silver Dragon is a fascinating ornamental plant from the tropical rainforests of South-East Asia that has made a name for itself with its unusual leaves. The heart-shaped, silvery shimmering leaf surfaces with dark green veins are reminiscent of dragon skin and lend every terrarium an unmistakable, mysterious atmosphere.

In its natural habitat, the plant grows in the warm, moist undergrowth of the jungle. This makes it ideal for tropically furnished terrariums in which a High humidity of 70-90 % and temperatures between 22 and 28 °C prevail. It really comes into its own in combination with misting or sprinkler systems.

The light requirements are moderate: Alocasia Silver Dragon prefers bright, indirect light and thrives optimally with an illumination of about 1,000-1,500 lumens. Direct sunlight should be avoided as it can burn the sensitive leaves. In the terrarium, a location in the middle area is ideal, where the plant immediately catches the eye with its striking leaf pattern.

With a growth height of around 30-40 cm the plant remains compact enough to be integrated into smaller tanks and at the same time offers a dense, decorative leaf structure. Its strong stems support the large leaves steadfastly and provide exciting accents in combination with other tropical plants.

Thanks to its robustness, the Alocasia Silver Dragon is an excellent eye-catcher in rainforest terrariums with reptiles, amphibians or invertebrates. It creates a near-natural environment, has an air-purifying effect and offers animals additional climbing and retreat options.
