Cubaris spec. “White Side” immediately catches the eye with its unique appearance. As if drawn with a fine brush, these Isopods have a clear, light-colored pattern on the sides of their bodies, which shimmers from pure white to a soft cream depending on the incidence of light. The central dorsal area, on the other hand, is a darker shade, creating a striking contrast of light and dark. This color distribution looks like a natural uniform and makes “White Side” a real eye-catcher in any posture.

Their origin from warm and humid habitats makes it clear that a constantly high humidity (70-80 %) is crucial. At the same time, there should also be a drier section in the terrarium so that the animals can retreat as they wish. White rotten wood, cork tubes, dried leaves and moss are ideal design elements that provide both cover and food. The lateral, light-colored body areas are particularly effective when they run between the natural structures.

In terms of behavior, “White Side” is curious but not hectic. They often travel in small groups and are easy to observe when searching for food. In addition to the material in the substrate, they are happy to accept additional food such as vegetables, leaves, proteins and calcium sources such as cuttlebone. Their light-colored flanks appear almost luminous when they crawl along dark wood or fresh moss.

The effect of this isopod species is particularly attractive in bioactive set-ups. Here they not only take on the role of ground police, but also create visual highlights. The high-contrast coloration makes them easier to spot in the terrarium – perfect for keepers who not only care for their animals but also want to observe them regularly.
