Cholla Wood in the desert terrarium: stylish & sensible

Cholla Wood is the dried inner skeleton of a cactus (usually Cylindropuntia), which is not only a real eye-catcher thanks to its unique, openwork structure, but also impresses in functional terms. Whether as a climbing facility for invertebrates, as a retreat for young animals or as a decorative element for near-natural set-ups – this special natural product brings life and character to any terrarium.

The natural, perforated surface of Cholla Wood provides ideal support for Isopods, jumping spiders, beetles or small reptiles. At the same time, it is light but stable enough to be used permanently in the terrarium. It is particularly popular in bioactive set-ups, where it is not only visually appealing but also functional: it is readily colonized by microorganisms, mosses and springtails, thus promoting the ecological balance in the terrarium.

In the desert terrarium, Cholla Wood is ideal as a hiding place for geckos or agamas. The wood can also be wonderfully planted with tillandsias to create a near-natural underwater landscape.

Thanks to its unique shape, each piece is one of a kind. You can use it as a tunnel, cave, bridge or climbing trunk – depending on how you place and display it. Cholla Wood is also very popular for DIY projects in nature decoration, terrarium landscapes or as a natural toy for rodents.

Our Cholla pieces are natural, untreated and carefully cleaned – ready for immediate use in your setup.
