Brief description:
Psalmopoeus cambridgei is light brown, gray-metallic to greenish in basic coloration. On its abdomen there is a slight shading and a black longitudinal stripe. It has an orange-brown stripe on its tarsi (last section of the leg).
It comes from Trinidad. This island is located a few kilometers from Venezuela and the South American continent. The tropical climate is characterized by daytime temperatures of around 30 °C, with temperatures dropping to 20 °C at night. The majority of the moderate annual rainfall of 2000 mm falls between June and October.
We keep our animals at a daytime temperature of 28 °C and lower it to 20 °C at night. However, it is also no problem for the animals to keep them at room temperature. This increases the development time, but Psalmopoeus cambridgei does not suffer any postural damage as a result. Humidity of 75 % is easily achieved by regular spraying with water.
Psalmopoeus cambridgei is definitely a beginner’s species, but care should be taken when handling it. The animals are really very fast and like to jump out of the terrarium. It is therefore best to change the water in the nocturnal tree tarantula during the day and observe the animal in its home. At night, they like to sit on their web of tubes and wait for an insect to approach so that they can eat it. Psalmopoeus cambridgei is quite uncompromising and greedily grabs anything that approaches. They also like to explore the surroundings outside the container. Therefore, make sure that your terrariums or boxes are lockable or sealed.
