Xenesthis intermedia – Colorful giant tarantula with purple shimmer

Xenesthis intermedia is probably one of the most strikingly colored tarantulas in the hobby. This species digs burrows and uses them as shelter, so a mixture of forest humus and sand with a ratio of 3:1 and a filling height of 15 to 20 cm should be chosen as the substrate. This also helps to maintain a humidity of 75 to 85 % without waterlogging. As a burrow dweller, it can still be seen relatively frequently and is therefore also present in the terrarium. The spiders on offer can be reared in a BraPlast box or in a rearing terrarium and later placed in a terrarium.
The terrarium size of 40 × 30 × 30 cm is well chosen. Furnishings can be chosen according to taste with wood and/or stones. Xenesthis intermedia should not be without a water bowl. Food animals are greedily accepted and anything that can be overpowered will be eaten. This rather large species grows quickly and is adult at around 3 years of age. As with many New World tarantula species, Xenesthis intermedia also has stinging hairs, which are shed as a defense. The stinging hairs cause a slight itch on the skin and are of no further concern.
Xenesthis intermedia is a strikingly beautiful tarantula that is also suitable for beginners in spider keeping. They have no problem feeding on all types of food and are forgiving of short-term husbandry mistakes.
