Short description Bucephalandra spec. “Brown Ghost”:
Bucephalandra spec. “Brown Ghost” is a fascinating variety that differs from the smaller “Brownie Ghost” and resembles the species Bucephalandra akantha. Like all Bucephalandras, it originates from the island of Borneo, where it grows as a rheophyte on rocks in the flood zone of rainforest streams. Bucephalandra spec. “Brown Ghost” is a fairly large variety with a strong rhizome. The broadly elliptical leaves show a slight variation in color and shape, they are dark green with a pale green to slightly reddish underside. Together with the stem, they reach a length of about 7-9 cm and the leaf edge is wavy.
Like other Bucephalandras, Bucephalandra spec. “Brown Ghost” is mainly an epiphyte that attaches itself to rocks or wood and finds support with its roots. They can also be anchored to the ground, but the rhizome should not be buried to avoid rotting. The plant roots itself and benefits from the humidity in the air. Growth is generally slow to very slow.
Bucephalandra spec. “Brown Ghost” also thrive in low light conditions, but develop their most beautiful appearance in medium light. The optimum temperature range is 22 to 26°C.
For optimum growth, we recommend leaving the plants alone so that they can grow undisturbed. Sudden changes in the water parameters can cause the plants to shed their leaves. However, they usually grow back slowly and form new shoots on the rhizome. Bucephalandra spec. “Brown Ghost” is easy to propagate by cutting off end and side shoots, which also encourages the plant to branch out.
