Millipede substrate: Optimal for healthy husbandry

Our millipede substrate provides an optimal basis for keeping millipedes and consists of a specially developed, finely structured humus, which is created by the further fermentation of our food foliage. This careful mixture of fermented leaves and white rotten wood not only gives your terrarium an aesthetic shine, but also creates a functional habitat that promotes the well-being of your terrarium inhabitants.

The finely structured humus in our substrate is created by a natural fermentation process that breaks down the cell structures of the leaves and releases important nutrients that can be used by primary decomposers such as millipedes. This substrate is rich in cellulose and other plant fibers, which are effectively broken down by the bottom dwellers and provide the terrarium with essential nutrients in the long term. The white rotten wood provides an important additional food source for soil organisms that have specialized in the decomposition of wood material.

Both substrates together promote biological activity in the soil and support a natural cycle economy in the terrarium.

The millipede substrate is ideal for terrariums as it remains loose and airy and allows the animals to burrow in easily and form their own burrows and tunnels. This structure not only supports the natural behavior of the animals, but also facilitates their care and observation. It is also ideal for Isopods and, as a top layer, provides optimum conditions for hiding and nesting. The substrate retains moisture well and creates a microclimate that comes very close to the natural living conditions of these ground dwellers.

To maintain the quality and function of the substrate in the long term, it should not be mixed with other types of substrate, as this can change the structure and chemical composition. Regular renewal of the substrate is important as soon as it loses its structural integrity or consists only of faecal components.

With our millipede substrate, you can provide your terrarium inhabitants with an environment that optimally supports their health and natural behavior and bring a piece of nature into your home that will delight every terrarium lover.
