Brief description:

Ergaula capucina is a species of cockroach from Thailand and Myanmar. The animals have a dark brown basic coloration and are decorated with an ochre-colored wavy line in the middle of the upper side. Another special feature is their behavior. We have never seen such a calm and relaxed species. You can sit or position them on your hand for minutes without them feeling disturbed or even fleeing.
Ergaula capucina nymphs like to stay in a soil substrate, which is why flake soil or a mixture of one part forest humus and one part white rotten wood is ideal for them. Moss can also be mixed in so that the humidity is kept better and more constant. The substrate height of 15 cm is ideal and does not need to be exceeded, as the animals do not dive deeper into the substrate. The substrate should always be kept slightly moist and must never be allowed to dry out, so it should be watered once a week. A covering layer of food leaves keeps the moisture in the substrate better and is also eaten readily. The substrate also provides the animals with their staple food. Ergaula capucina will happily accept any leftover vegetables, fruit or other organic remains as supplementary food. Branches with leaves are readily accepted and also provide the animals with liquid. Protein food should also be offered, as the animals otherwise like to nibble at the wings. This is nothing to worry about, but it looks unsightly and can be avoided.
Breeding is easy and is also interesting for keepers who have to feed insects from time to time. Spiders and scorpions gladly accept the nymphs as food and there is no need to worry about any escaped animals, as these dry out after a very short time. The nymphs and adult females are not disk walkers, unlike the adult males. An open container is therefore not suitable for housing them. We recommend a terrarium with a trap door or our millipede complete set as an empty box, flake soil as a substrate and individual decoration as a climbing opportunity and shelter for the animals.
